The right accountant depends on the business you are building.

We do not try to be the right firm for everyone. The strongest relationships start when the client's expectations and the accountant's way of working are well matched.

We work mainly with established owner-managed businesses. Most are limited companies with turnover from around £500,000 to £10 million, although the nature of the business matters more than a precise number.

Business Clarity

Most of the services on this page come together in Business Clarity, our ongoing advisory relationship. It combines monthly reporting with commentary, a forward-looking meeting each quarter, an annual business health review and access to advice between meetings, so that tax, performance and planning are looked at together rather than as separate annual tasks.

The businesses we help most

Our clients are usually led by a founder or working director who knows the industry well and wants to spend time running the business, not decoding financial reports.

The business may employ a team, be VAT registered, have more than one source of income or involve decisions about remuneration, property, investment, succession or personal wealth. The owner wants those issues considered together rather than handled as isolated annual tasks.

You may recognise the point they have reached

The business has grown, but the advice has not kept pace.

The current accountant is reliable on deadlines but rarely starts a useful conversation.

The owner deals with a different person each time and has lost a sense of continuity.

A significant decision is approaching and experienced input is needed before it is made.

The accounts are accurate, but they do not give a clear view of how the business is really performing.

What our clients tend to value

  • Clear explanations without unnecessary jargon.

  • Advice that arrives in time to be useful.

  • A consistent point of contact who knows the history.

  • Straight answers, including when the answer is not the one they expected.

  • A relationship that supports both the business and the owner behind it.

What our clients say

I’d thoroughly recommend AK Tax & Accountancy.  They are professional and caring, and assisted us through a series of major business changes and challenges, always on hand with immediate and effective advice.

When we may not be the right fit

We are unlikely to be the best choice if the main priority is the lowest possible fee, or if the business has very simple requirements and needs little beyond basic annual compliance.

That is not a judgement on the business. It simply reflects where our approach creates the most value: established businesses where better information and experienced advice can influence real decisions.

Does this sound like your business?

We would be pleased to have an initial conversation. We will ask about the business, explain how we work and be open about whether we think there is a good fit on both sides.
